Rededication of the Holy Family Shrine

The new Holy Family Shrine on Eden Hill, home of the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy, was dedicated on Oct. 14, 2017.

Renovations began on what was previously called "The St. Joseph Shrine" in the Spring of 2016. These renovations included new memorial windows, a new statue, new prayer gardens, doubling the interior area of the shrine, and tripling the canopy area.

The completion of these renovations during the 100th Anniversary year of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima is quite providential. Sister Lucia dos Santos, one of the Fatima visionaries, wrote Cardinal Caffarra, president of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the Family, that Satan's last attack would be on the family. Also, the last apparition of Our Lady of Fatima was on Oct. 13, 1917, which we just celebrated the centennial of yesterday. At this last apparition, each member of the Holy Family made an appearance. Now, more than ever, we need the intercession of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph for families throughout the world.

Father Anthony Gramlich, MIC, rector of the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy presided over the rededication ceremony. He spoke on the importance of the family in the world today.

"We have a great blessing in the Latino community which comes here to worship," Fr. Anthony said. "They place heavy importance on the family, and that is a tradition which we want to adopt with this expansion on a Shrine we have had on the property since the beginning. We want this Holy Family Shrine to be a place of peace and prayer for us and our families."

Create a lasting remembrance for a family member (living or deceased) or for your whole family at our new Holy Family Shrine at MemorialsOnEdenHill.org. You can commemorate a special occasion such as a birth, wedding, or anniversary; or simply to ask the Holy Family for their intercession for your family.

By having a memorial made at the Holy Family Shrine, you and those you honor in the memorial will be remembered in Holy Mass and during the Hour of Great Mercy every day at the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy. Additionally, on the Feast of the Holy Family (the Sunday after Christmas), the Marians will offer a special Mass for you and your special intentions.
