Letter of Good Standing

USCCB Requirements for Letters of Good Standing (LGS) and Format

We are required to receive the following Letter of good Standing for all priests and deacons who are from outside the Diocese of Springfield, MA, from the Bishop of the Diocese of Springfield, MA, when they are visiting The National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA.

These Letters of Good Standing are necessary in order for the priests and deacons to perform their clerical duties while they are visiting the Shrine.

The Bishop’s Chancery may copy you at the same time, but we are to receive the letters directly from the Bishop:

The Bishop's office may send a copy of the letter(s):  atttached in an email to [email protected] or by Regular mail to PO Box 951, Stockbridge, MA. 01262
 

Chanceries within the Province of the Archdiocese of Boston may use the internal system set up within the Province for this purpose. The letter must be presented on official letterhead from the Bishop’s Office or the Vicar of the Clergy with a seal.  

We no longer accept: Celebret cards.

What we Need:

Please have the Bishop’s Chancery send a copy of the letter(s) directly to us, via mail or email on their letterhead at least 2 weeks in advance of your trip at our address above.

Included in the letter:

    The Priest or Deacon’s Name;
    The Diocese where he is currently residing;
    His present position and address where he is serving.
    States that he: Is of good moral character and is free of any impediments;
    Has participated in an adult training program for the Protection of Children and Young People
    Is a priest or deacon of ‘good standing’?
    The date of his visit to The National Shrine;
    His stated business.
