National Shrine Seeks Volunteers
Each year, the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy welcomes tens of thousands of pilgrims from around the globe. The gatherings have grown over the years, and we depend on our volunteers to assist us in welcoming and guiding those who are new to Eden Hill.
This year, due to the health crisis, we have had to cancel most, if not all, of our major public events, from Divine Mercy Sunday through the month of July. We are fortunate, however, to have been allowed to resume the public celebration of the Holy Mass each day (at 2:00 p.m., followed by the Chaplet of The Divine Mercy and Benediction) at our Mother of Mercy Outdoor Shrine, and to hold drive-through Confessions (each day from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., and on weekends also from 3:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.) behind our main parking lot. We are also able to have re-opened our Gift Shop with limited capacity and reduced hours (M-F from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and Sat/Sun from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.). Our outdoor Stations of the Cross and outdoor Shrines, including the replica of the Grotto at Lourdes and the Holy Family Shrine also remain open. We are praying for a time when we can reopen the Shrine Church, and hold services inside the Church again.
We are always in need of volunteers to help us in welcoming and guiding our pilgrims who are new to Eden Hill. Now, more than ever, it is important to share our new schedule, and the location of devotions and the Sacraments, as we are not allowed to hand out maps or schedules to our visitors.
Although our services are religious in nature, any member of the community is welcome to volunteer. We at Eden Hill are proud to accept all members of the community to assist us, and we appreciate those efforts greatly. Choosing to become a volunteer means that there will be more help to those who join us seeking God's infinite mercy and peace..
Please prayerfully consider whether you might be able to join us in ministering to the pilgrims in one of many areas in which we are in need, from greeting; to traffic and directions; to assisting us in the Gift Shop; and/or assisting those who wish to enroll loved ones in the Association of Marian Helpers or arrange for a Mass; ushering at Mass and/or assisting in Collections at Mass. We can also use help in maintenance, particularly in maintaining our extensive grounds. As you can see,we have many areas that need spirit-filled volunteers to help our pilgrims feel the love and mercy of our Lord. While the majority of the pilgrims speak English, we do have some who speak other languages such as Spanish, Polish, Italian, French, and Tagalog. If you speak any of these or any other foreign language, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Our Lord always makes a greater good come out of our difficulties, and this is a wonderful time to share your gifts and God's Mercy with our pilgrims. This would also be a great experience for Ministry Groups, Confirmation Candidates, and any Religious Education Classes Grades 9-11, to observe, in person, the devotion of our pilgrims. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please pass along this information.
Volunteers must be 18 years of age or at least 16 and under the direct supervision of an adult. Training is required prior to volunteering, and is provided for those who are registered, on Saturday mornings from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. We accept volunteers whether you can commit to a full day, or partial day, and whether your commitment is for a regular weekly, or less frequent, schedule. We do ask that each commitment be for at least three - four hours. Please call the volunteer coordinator for further information.
You may submit the form online (year-round) or PRINT IT OUT and mail it to us.
